I haven’t heard anything about it on this side of the pond, but our folks in our London office are very excited about this so I thought I would share with readers interested in all things Amazon. We are seeing more and more US-based retailers leverage Amazon EU by sending their items to the UK and leveraging FBA over there. This will be another great reason to do that.
Amazon.co.uk today announced they are expanding free shipping for anything > GBP25 to 17 EU countries including: Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Porgutal, Poland, etc.
This is a classic Amazon quote from the release and highlights their relentless focus on making shipping as inexpensive as possible over the last 5+ years:
“Free delivery has been an important part of the great value Amazon shopping experience for many years and we are delighted to announce its availability to even more European customers in time for Christmas,” said Brian McBride, Managing Director of Amazon.co.uk Ltd. “The aim is for European customers to be able to purchase anything they want to buy online at a low price from a vast selection of products. Now, tens of millions of customers in Europe can also benefit from delivery to their door, absolutely free of charge.”
Last year about this time, Amazon announced same day shipping to a bunch of metro areas in the US – it will be interesting to see if they raise the bar on that program again.
