Last week, a group of us on the ChannelAdvisor Services team volunteered our time to a great cause benefiting local, underprivileged children in the Raleigh area — The Raleigh Rescue Mission!

Members of the ChannelAdvisor services team give back at the Raleigh Rescue Mission.

The Raleigh Rescue Mission provides rehabilitation and recovery services, along with medical care and job training to the impoverished and homeless in Raleigh. Their annual Backpack Giveaway collects and distributes school supplies to local children affected by homelessness or poverty.

Our team braved the North Carolina heat to man the “Stuff-The-Truck” donation drive at PDQ Raleigh. We collected donations on the spot, handed out flyers and talked one-on-one with locals about the cause. (And we sweetened the pot with PDQ coupons!)

Through our experience, we were all humbled by everything that this organization does in the community.

We learned that thousands of children in Wake County will be homeless going into this school year, and that even more families will struggle with providing back-to-school supplies. School supplies typically average $100 per child. Through their donation efforts, Raleigh Rescue Mission has a goal to give away over 2,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies at their Backpack Giveaway Event on August 12.

The organization has also partnered with a local Five Below to donate 10% of any purchase when a patron mentions Raleigh Rescue Mission.

Overall, it felt great to give back to our community and help support an organization doing such amazing work for families in need. Through “A Day to Give Back,” ChannelAdvisor employees have the opportunity to use a full day of PTO each year to volunteer in their communities (and psst… we’re hiring!)
