Parents will spend nearly $700 to get one child ready for school this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) annual back to school survey — and even more for a student going to college.
Here are the top three reasons why now is a good time to start selling on eBay, along with easy steps to get started today.
Reason #1: It’s an opportunity with free advertising
In 2017, eBay is going all out — email marketing, on-site ads, and more — to drive parents and students alike to your great deals. And with nearly 80% of parents starting to shop just 3+ weeks before school starts, now’s the time to make the most out of the huge influx of seasonal buyers eBay is sending your way.
Reason #2: eBay’s robust back to school page is attracting new buyers
A new, easy-to-navigate page for back to school shoppers means that popular categories like electronics, sporting goods, fashion apparel, office supplies, shoes and of course, home and kitchen, featuring dorm essentials, are front and center for customers. Visit eBay’s back-to-school page to find the profiled categories.
Reason #3: Back-to-school means more than just school supplies
While “back-to-school” may make you automatically think of new pens, pencils and notebooks, school supplies aren’t the only high-performing categories this season. Check out these NRF survey results:
- 45% of back-to-school shoppers will buy a laptop computer; more than a third will purchase a tablet or calculator; 18% will purchase a smartphone.
- For back-to-college shoppers, the survey showed that parents will spend $51.4B — with the biggest areas of spend occurring within electronics, apparel and even food.
- Food will be a bigger area of spend due to fewer students living at home this year than the past. Parents are stocking up on food and beverages to fuel those first few days of college.
