With so many options for webstore platforms, choosing the right one for your business can be overwhelming. As a business analyst for webstores at ChannelAdvisor, I’m often asked how to choose between different webstore platforms. My answer is always going to start with “It depends…” The fun part then begins, as I dig in to find out more about the seller’s specific use case to determine which webstore might be the right fit. In this blog post, I’m going to delve into one of our Webstore Amplifiers — Bigcommerce.

bcBigcommerce is a software as a service (SaaS) platform that has been around since 2009 and currently is home to over 95,000 stores. Bigcommerce provides an out-of-the-box solution with a comprehensive set of tools unmatched by other SaaS-modeled e-commerce platforms. This is ideal for a multichannel seller that doesn’t have much time to closely manage the ins and outs of its store with a fully customizable platform. In addition to its built-in tools, Bigcommerce offers an app store that makes it possible for a seller to grow its business with additional tools.

Bigcommerce allows sellers to easily customize their stores without owning a lot of the development. It offers over 100 responsive design templates to choose from — and even options to create your own. Bigcommerce has recently done a complete overhaul of its template library — adding roughly thirty spruced-up templates with updated responsive and mobile-friendly themes. With very basic HTML/CSS knowledge, these themes can easily be customized to provide sellers with the exact look and feel they desire for their webstores.

Many of Bigcommerce’s new themes support faceted search capabilities, allowing sellers to drive conversions by increasing relevance in what the customer is looking for. Results can be dynamically changed by a customer by creating filters to sort by size, color, brand or whatever else may be important to them.

When choosing a new webstore platform, it’s important to know you’re going to have the support you need when you run into a question. Bigcommerce provides 24/7 support via phone, online live chat and email.

As a Bigcommerce Enterprise seller, in addition to the 24/7 support, you also get a dedicated account manager to help your business grow and provide you with early access to new features that Bigcommerce rolls out.

Bigcommerce recently updated its pricing structure to provide more value at each tier. They have three pricing levels:

  • Standard: $29.95 per month
  • Plus: $79 per month
  • Enterprise: pricing varies depending on requirements

ChannelAdvisor Sellers are recommended to use the Enterprise plan for the best integration experience.

CRM Capabilities

With Bigcommerce, retailers can easily manage their customer base with tools such as an address book and functionality to place customers into groups (e.g., retail vs. wholesale) — allowing you, the business owner, the ability to provide group-specific discounts and promotions.

Additionally, customers are able to create an account with your store, which can greatly improve their shopping experience. A customer’s account allows them to create and share wishlists of products from the store, manage items in their shopping cart and even reorder past orders. And for those stores using PayPal powered by Braintree, a one-click integration within Bigcommerce, customers can check out at all 95,000 Bigcommerce stores without reentering payment information.

Lastly, Bigcommerce is integrated with email marketing providers such as MailChimp, Constant Contact and iContact.

App Marketplace

Bigcommerce provides a one-click app store, making it easy for business owners tos connect to third-party applications for additional features such as product reviews, customer wish lists, product recommendations, offers and discounts.

And in case you need to outsource any services, Bigcommerce can connect you with experts in store design, development and marketing who are familiar with Bigcommerce and will make store set up a breeze.

While Bigcommerce doesn’t currently offer automotive fitment support directly, they do have integrations with companies such as Search Spring and Nextopia. These companies make it possible to conduct a filtered search by year, make and model (a necessity for auto fitment sellers!).
