Countdown to Catalyst: The 5 Types of People You’ll Meet at Catalyst 2017

February 10, 2017

As we get closer to the opening keynote of Catalyst 2017, stay tuned to this blog for Catalyst stories, announcements and conference tips in our “Countdown to Catalyst” blog series.

There’s less than a month to go (can you believe it?) until the best and brightest of the e-commerce world come together in Nashville, TN.

We. Are. So. Excited.

And we hope you are too! It’s going to be a busy three days filled with opportunities to network, learn and be inspired by some of the brightest minds shaping the industry. All in one of the most buzzworthy “it” cities in the country!

By now, you’re well aware of the headlining keynote speakers that’ll be sharing their vast expertise on the Catalyst stage (If not, you’re in for a crafty surprise!). But what would Catalyst be without you — the attendees? The people that come every year are the pinnacle of the conference, and help shape each other’s experiences as expertise from all cogs of the e-commerce machine come together under one unifying purpose: to stay on the cutting edge of the industry.

Over the years, we’ve seen quite a few people come in and out of the Catalyst doors, so we put together a handy guide to the five types of people you’ll definitely come across during your three days of breakout sessions, networking breaks, parties and everything in between. Which one do you fall under?

1. The Channel-focused Crowd

These folks have a laser-like focus on what it takes to succeed on a given channel: Marketplaces, digital marketing, social commerce… they know what they want and they go after it. You’ll likely find them cornering keynote speakers to pick their brains on their areas of expertise. Another likely hangout are the Ask the Experts tables — find them there looking for tips and tricks to boost their channel sales.

2. Everything E-Commerce Experts

Rather than being focused on one channel, these guys and their teams are responsible for the whole enchilada. They brought their entire team so that they can divide and conquer the breakout sessions and soak up as much e-commerce know-how as possible in three days. You can find them working the E-Commerce Discussion Tables to network with like-minded peers.

3. Big Wig Brands

Ah, the brands. Some are learning how to better sell direct to consumers, others are learning how to better sell through retail partners — but all of them are learning how to increase brand awareness and improve success with retailer partners. That’s why they’re usually spotted camped out in the Catalyst Pavilion during networking breaks, speaking to retailers. Naturally, your best bet is to find these guys in the brand-focused sessions such as Content is Currency: Show Me the Money or The Last Mile: Drive your Customer Experience Through Delivery.

4. Ecosystem Enablers

Need a partner for pretty much ANY area of e-commerce? These guys are here to help you out. Whether you need an edge in logistics, digital marketing, marketplaces, they have the tips to help you optimize. They’re easy to find: catch them in the Catalyst Pavilion manning their booths, in the Catalyst Theater and speaking in breakout sessions.

5. ChannelAdvisor Geeks

We wear the e-commerce geek title proudly. ChannelAdvisor experts can be found just about anywhere during the conference, and we’ll gladly talk your ear off about the most pressing e-commerce news, the latest in channel updates, optimization strategies, and Star Wars (duh) to name a few.

BONUS! Martha Stewart

You read that right. While everyone will get to see Martha join David Spitz on the Catalyst stage for the opening keynote, one lucky conference goer will get a chance to meet her. Will you be the lucky winner?!
