Amazon Prime is here! Australians now have access to the membership program which is offering free two-day delivery on eligible items to nearly 90 percent of Australians. There are currently over 100 million Prime members worldwide, with Australian consumers able to access the program by signing up for a free 30-day trial (and later joining for $6.99 per month or a 30 percent discount for a $59 per year fee). The promotional price of $4.99 per month is available until 31 January 2019.

It’s an exciting time for retailers, who have been waiting of news for a Prime launch since Amazon arrived in late 2017. It signals the next stage in Amazon’s evolution and an opportunity for retailers to tap into a loyal and engaged consumer base.

“We hope that Australians will love free two business day delivery on products from Amazon Australia and free international delivery on products from Amazon U.S., all available to customers on Amazon.com.au,” says Jamil Ghani, Vice President, Prime International, Amazon. “We are really proud to bring Australians the most extensive set of Prime benefits at launch for any country – ever. This is just the beginning for Prime in Australia, as we will keep making Prime better, adding even more selection and benefits.”

Prime-eligible products span all 23 shopping categories currently available on Amazon Australia. We have previously been working with our customers to ensure that their products are eligible for two business-day delivery from the time of Prime’s launch. We also held a webinar focusing on FBA and Prime so that you would know what to expect when the time came (that time being…now!). For retailers, Prime offers visibility through filtered search results. Eliminating uncertainty around shipping costs and times is also a huge drawcard for consumers.

“We are thrilled to bring Prime, our premium membership program and its many benefits, to Australia, little more than six months after the launch of our Marketplace and Retail offering,” said Rocco Braeuniger, Country Manager of Amazon Australia. “We have been working hard to expand selection, ensure customers get great value, and improve the Amazon shopping experience for Australians.  With the addition of Prime, customers can now enjoy the most convenient way to shop and take advantage of new and expanding benefits from Amazon.”

We know that many sellers are just getting their heads around listing on Amazon and adapting for FBA and Prime seems like another challenge. However, the benefits for retailers are enormous. To find out more about how you can leverage Prime for marketplace success, contact us today.
