Oakland Athletics executive vice president of baseball operations to share how analytics can boost performance

Research Triangle Park, NC – March 3, 2016 – ChannelAdvisor Corporation (NYSE:ECOM), a leading provider of cloud-based e-commerce solutions that enable retailers and branded manufacturers to increase global sales, today announced that Billy Beane will give the keynote presentation at Catalyst Americas 2016, taking place April 11-13 at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Beane is the executive vice president of baseball operations for the Oakland Athletics and is known for implementing the popular “moneyball” methodology. In his presentation, titled “Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game,” Beane will share how companies can implement data-based strategies to effectively, efficiently and profitably manage their assets, talent and resources. Beane’s keynote will kick off the Catalyst conference on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 5 p.m. PDT.

“Competition in e-commerce is as thick as an MLB pennant race, and data is a critical component of a winning strategy,” said David Spitz, ChannelAdvisor CEO. “Retailers and brands touch product data and performance data in some way, shape or form each day. Billy Beane’s experience with analyzing data to transform the Oakland Athletics will create an intriguing session for Catalyst Americas attendees as they look for ways to future-proof their online businesses.”

Beane was the inspiration for the 2003 book “Moneyball” and the subsequent Oscar-nominated film of the same name. He’s an innovator in the baseball community for helping to revolutionize the way MLB teams choose and manage players. After his MLB playing career, Beane became the general manager of the Oakland Athletics and now serves as the executive vice president of baseball operations. Using a statistical methodology to assemble successful player lineups, he transformed the team into a six-time, division-winning franchise with one of the smallest payrolls in the league.

“The Moneyball philosophy can be applied to all businesses, and I’m excited to come to Catalyst to discuss what it takes to achieve great success with limited resources and gain a competitive advantage,” said Beane.
