November 29, 2011 “Cyber Five” Culminates in Strong Cyber Monday; Cyber Monday Sales Grow by 25 Percent

Amazon’s Explosive 52 Percent Growth Smashes 2010 Record

Research Triangle Park, NC – November 29, 2011 – ChannelAdvisor, a global e-commerce software provider that helps retailers sell more across online channels, today announced that its customers experienced a tremendous Cyber Five, the five-day shopping push beginning Thanksgiving Day, that culminated in a record-breaking Cyber Monday. ChannelAdvisor customers’ Amazon sales surged throughout Cyber Monday, setting a new gross merchandise value (GMV) record for ChannelAdvisor.

“As we look at the different e-commerce channels, Amazon was a clear winner with more than 50 percent growth year over year – well over twice the growth rate of overall e-commerce,” said ChannelAdvisor CEO Scot Wingo. “As big box retailers competed to see who could open first on Thanksgiving, online retailers, including Amazon, pushed up their promotions as well. This resulted in steady growth throughout all of November as opposed to the more concentrated numbers we’ve experienced the past few years during the Cyber Five.”

Cyber Monday Highlights

  • Amazon same-store sales increased by 52 percent on Cyber Monday; in fact, as of Cyber Monday, ChannelAdvisor customers have sold more on Amazon year to date than in the past six years combined
  • Paid Search same-store sales increased by 39 percent
  • eBay same-store sales remained steady with 10 percent growth
  • Comparison Shopping same-store sales increased by five percent
  • ChannelAdvisor processed approximately 25,000 transactions per hour

ChannelAdvisor customer eBags experienced impressive growth throughout the season, especially on Amazon.

“We had a tremendous day on Amazon yesterday, growing 105 percent more than last year,” said Peter Cobb, eBags co-founder and senior vice president.  “The ‘Christmas Creep’ pulled sales forward since many retailers released deals earlier in the month, but Cyber Monday set a single-day company sales record. Overall, our sales grew more than 50 percent and certain luggage brands sold 130 percent better than in 2010.”

ChannelAdvisor customer ReCellular sells refurbished mobile devices on multiple channels and experienced dramatic growth on Amazon during the Cyber Five, increasing sales by close to 170 percent on Black Friday alone. The company’s transition to mobilekarma.com, its ChannelAdvisor Webstore, proved beneficial as well this Black Friday, more than doubling last year’s sales.
