How the Customer Became King: The Power of Reviews

Presented by: Peter Mühlmann, CEO, Trustpilot

Shoppers now have more power than ever before. They can criticise businesses on social networks. They also have access to online product information and price comparison sites – they don’t have to wait for an advert to scream at them or for a salesperson to tell them what to think.

Now, thanks to online reviews, shoppers can also uncover the ‘human’, emotional side of ‘customer experience’ before they buy:

  • 77% of UK consumers look at online reviews before making a purchasing decision.
  • 89% of British consumers are influenced by negative online reviews. 78% claim that negative online reviews could deter them from making a purchase altogether.
  • 60% of consumers have written an online review in the past year – of which 83% were positive.*

Retailers which aren’t listening to buyers are dying out. If your company can’t differentiate itself by offering a good ‘customer experience’, you won’t survive in the new retail world.

Join this session to find out how leading businesses engage with online reviews; not just to boost their Google Seller Rating and SEO, but to communicate with customers and benefit from customer feedback. Online reviews can generate up to 40% additional revenue each year for your company – in this session, you’ll get practical tips and find out how.

Jo Malone is the founder of the high-end fragrance and cosmetics range that bears her name. She has also presented BBC’s High Street Dreams, helping entrepreneurial individuals develop their own products for the mass market. Leaving school at 14 to care for her sick mother, Jo started work on a beauty counter. She began mixing scents in her kitchen and giving them away as tokens of appreciation. This eventually gave rise to a complete range of luxury fragrances, bath oils, skin care and scented candles.

Jo left the original brand in 2006, but soon started asking herself if she could do it again. With a head full of ideas and natural entrepreneurial flair, the result was a new range called Jo LOVES. The collection includes eight fragrances and two innovative layered scented candles.

In presentations Jo explains how she made it from council house to her own multi-million pound company.
